Any last minute ideas?

Author: wadedotson1965

I’m going trick or treating with my little sister. I didn’t really want to before, but I decide just about an hour ago, to dress up and join the fun. Any last minute ideas of what I can go as?

Write numbers on a shirt and wear jeans. Wa-lah! You are now "someone you can count on" :D x :)

I just mean coming prime time in ‘87 vs ‘77.

I love "what if" questions :)

I hope you do too. Fun to answer and read.

Everyone would talk about how Tyson was better. Then the fight would finally be made we all find out that a great boxer beats a great slugger, and nothing but excuses and bewilderment from Tyson fans. Then Evander Holyfield loses a decision to Larry. Nothing but excuses about Holyfield being too small and that Larry should have knocked him out. Then Larry beats Riddick Bowe, and everyone will say it was because Bowe was a knucklehead rather than Larry being better. Then Larry knocks out Lennox Lewis because Lewis was just another English import with no chin. Basically, it would be the same it was in the 70’s and 80’s, folks not giving Larry his proper respect by blaming inferior competition. Larry only made fighters look inferior.

Folks don’t understand how great Larry was because too many folks don’t understand the subtler talents that comprise a great figther.

I have noticed an extreme sense of urgency on the part of Nasa and the government to build up the space program and the possibility of colonizing the moon and Mars. Is this due to a projected global crisis that is being kept secret, requiring an immediate sense of urgency for an irreversible series of events that could threaten the existence of this planet?

Hello Yankee fan -

I must admit I have not observed any sign of a rush to build up the space program, or to colonize either the Moon or Mars. On the contrary, I continue to see budget cutbacks and infighting about which project deserves more attention. Some of this is proper and has been going on for decades, but today’s NASA budget is so minuscule that what you may be seeing is folks creating publicity in an effort to get favorable status at budget review time. This the unfortunate state of advanced science today, where social security, medicare, welfare, and warfare have become priorities that far exceed – by orders of magnitude – the advancement of knowledge.

The colonization of these planets will take centuries – not decades. The existence of our planet is not threatened – although the conditions under which we exist may change over time. All the more reason for us to focus our efforts on technical solutions and stop shouting about politics and secret government conspiracies.

The government is not covering anything up in this regard. I suspect that you will not believe me, but the government does not have the will or the skill to take on that burden, especially when there are so many differing opinions on so many subjects. The government already has an extremely difficult time keeping secrets about sensitive classified defense information. Please do not generate yet another conspiracy theory. We have enough already! Thanks.

No, it’s due to the political fallout that would occur if other countries were first to re-land on the moon or land on Mars.

I haven’t noticed anything like that. There has been some talk about such things, but just talk. Talk is cheap. Bush is great at making statements about going back to the moon and mars, but its always in the future. To actually go to the moon and mars you need to cough up huge sums of money. No such money has been asked for, much less allocated. Its all talk. It gets some votes from the space enthusiasts. The aerospace companies would love to get big new contracts, but frankly a program of such magnitude is a political decision and there is no demand by the public for such a folly. Congress has shown no interest in pursuing such a frivolous boondoggle. There is no danger imminent. Any colonies we planted would not long survive if Earth was seriously damaged or destroyed.

And what would they be covering up? Global warming that could kill us all, a theory supported by NASA research? Asteroids that could kill us all, a theory supported by NASA research? If NASA was covering something up wouldn?t they shut up about global warming and asteroids impacts? Or maybe they are smarter than that. If a crisis came along they would announce it to the entire world and get more funding to fix it. What exactly would the purpose of a cover up be since it would mean less funding?

Absolutely not. There has always been talk of colonizing the moon or mars. At this time, there is no possible way for humans to colonize either the moon or mars. We would need to either somehow create a magnetic field on the planet, or have something around us that can shield us from the sun’s more dangerous rays. Mars is red because the soil has been ionized by the sun due to the lack of a magnetic field.

Likewise, I haven’t noticed an increasing urgency to go live somewhere else. Sure, we have our fair share of problems on Earth, but every generation has some "world- ending problem that can never be solved," but somehow life always goes on (remember the huge, deadly holes in the ozone layer?).

No, there is no global panic driving space colonization.
A big piece of it is creating and fostering excitement for space exploration. It’s cool stuff and a significant frontier; why not be excited?

It is basic human desire to expand and grow. Eventually, say in a few million years..planet earth will no longer be habitable. Therefore, we must,as a race, continue to grow beyond the boundries of this planet to search for other habitable places to live. The process to achieve this is very long and complicated and it’s going to take many hundreds of years to "get it right". Therefore… because of the human desire to expand and grow..finding new world’s to colonize is the next logical step in our evolution if the human race is going to continue to exist. There really isn’t an urgency..just a human desire.

Any ideas? I am new to flying solo.

That is because Southwest doesnt do assign seats. Southwest does group boarding. You are assigned to a group and you board when your group is called. On your ticket, it sould say A, B or C and that would be your boarding group. Once you get on board, you cant sit anywhere you want and you have to board with your group. Its not a first come first serve basis.

They don’t have seat numbers you can seat anywhere u want to.

You sit wherever you want on Southwest .. Get to the airport early if you want to be in the front of the plane. Make sure your boarding group is "A" and you should be good.
nickslady21 | Aug 20, 2007

I dont think they give out seat numbers, Itsa first come first serve thing, When I book my flight, my airline alwayslets me pick my seat. I always go through Orbitz to book my flight on Delta.
Marilyn | Aug 20, 2007

Southwest lets you printing out your boarding pass starting 24 hours before the boarding time. The first 1/3 or so get an A on their printout and the next group a B and the last group a C. They board in that order (except they let handicapped and passengers with small children absolutely first). So try to print out your pass as close to 24 hours before your flight and then get to your gate early and stand in the correct letters line right away and then you will get a better pick of seats.

I have been invited to become one of three principle players of a new business venture. My role is technology. I will be responsible for designing and building the system architecture used by both internal and external users. My years of experience in designing similar systems makes me ideal for the position. The other two players have the market know-how and money.

How do I go about putting a value on myself when it comes time to negotiate shares disbursement, salary, incentives and so on?
