Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The
|
IMDB rating: 7.20 Plot: Steve Zissou, sea-film auteur a la Jacques Cousteau, has reason to be melancholy: his partner has been eaten, perhaps by a mythic jaguar shark, his wife may be taking up with her ex-husband, a young man appears claiming Steve is his father (Steve hates fathers), his most recent films have tanked, he’s having trouble raising money for his venture to revenge his partner, and he’s attracted to a pregnant reporter who prefers the pretender. At sea, in pursuit of the shark, will he escape pirates and mutiny, forge the bonds of fatherhood, place his arm around his wife, find the monster of the deep, re-establish box office hegemony, and discover a reason to smile? |

What's your favorite Wes Anderson film and why?
Bottle Rocket
Rushmore
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
The Darjeeling Limited
I absolute love all his films. Personally, Rushmore is my favorite. I just love the character of Max Fischer.
Rushmore is still my favorite, too. It has the most consistent vision, is often hilarious, Bill Murray at his best. And even though the character of Max is often obnoxious, you really feel for him, too. Plus his stage productions are totally inspired. It’s just one of the more visionary coming of age comedies ever.
After that I like Bottle Rocket and Darjeeling the best. Tenenbaums I really liked when it first came out but now I find it kind of hard to get through. Zissou has plenty of moments and a great soundtrack, but it feels really contrived and doesn’t have much dramatic momentum.
So… Rushmore still rules. I own the Criterion DVD of that one.

they are all great
but i have to say Darjeeling Limited, because it was the most heartwarming comedy he’s ever made and is extremly moving…
